Digital Design in Facial Prosthetics
Technology in the 21st Century continues to bring amazing advances in healthcare. The prosthetic rehabilitation of patients is no exception and the wider availability of graphic computing and CAD CAM technologies is enabling better and faster treatment for more patients.
To the practitioner, the array of constantly evolving technologies can seem bewildering; this course is aimed at those who desire to investigate the use and integration of digital technologies in their working practice. The program combines ‘hands-on’ tuition with comprehensive lectures and demonstrations from an experienced faculty, providing the participant with the confidence to move their traditional practice in a digital direction.
The course is intended for clinical and technical practitioners involved in facial prosthetic rehabilitation. This user group requires limited or no experience using technology for planning, design or fabrication.
These users include:
- Anaplastologists
- Dentists
- Maxillofacial Prosthetists and Technologists
- Prosthodontists
- Medical Artists
- Medical Engineers
- Prosthetic Technicians
The workshop will introduce an array of technologies that aid in the planning, design and fabrication of prosthetic devices. Through a review of the broad spectrum of technologies in data acquisition, digital design, colour formulation and physical fabrication, the participant will develop an appreciation for the integration of technology into the clinical domain. Throughout the course, participants will use data acquisition and CAD CAM soft and hardware to explore the benefits of technology. Instruction will be provided via lecture and demonstration with a dedicated focus on hands-on instruction and exercises.
Participants will work with patient specific data to practice design fundamentals for manufacture of wax prototype and substructure components, and are encouraged to bring their own patient data for completion of planning and design exercises*.
*Further information will be provided on preparation of data for the course.
